Winner of the 2002 National Award for Smart Growth Achievement, this mixed-use, transit-oriented development thrives along the path of five Metro stations. Through zoning regulations, Arlington has kept higher density, private sector development close to the stations, allowing development to step down as it moves away from the Metro. With as emphasis on pedestrian-friendly walkways and visually compelling streetscapes, the corridor has created a vibrant, popular, and healthy economic core that pays for amenities throughout Arlington and has not increased traffic.
