The Agricultural Reserve, Montgomery County, MD

barnThe Agricultural Reserve is a nationally-acclaimed land-use plan established in 1980 in response to the rapid disappearance of Montgomery County's farms and natural environment. The 93,000 acres of farmland of the Ag Reserve provide a historic rural complement to the busy, modern lives of urban Washington, D.C. and suburban Montgomery County. True to its charter as a means of preserving agriculture and allowing working farms to flourish, the farming supported by this land employs thousands of people and contributes fresh food and millions of dollars annually to our region's economy.
