Fairfax's strong economy and good schools mean continued population growth. Redesigning the county's commercial strip corridors to absorb growth, can protect tree-lined, single-family home neighborhoods, save open space and minimize traffic. Springfield Metro, Route 1, Merrifield, Annandale and Bailey's Crossroads offer opportunities for mixed-use, walkable town centers with transit and mixed-income housing.
The City of Falls Church, City of Fairfax and Town of Vienna are all exploring ways to convert their strip corridors into walkable communities that will appeal to everyone from young home-buyers to empty-nesters.
