- Student or recent graduate in communications, journalism, business, planning, architecture, or related fields
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Event planning experience, or willingness to take on planning some of our events
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to take initiative
- Great interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail
- Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite
- Social media knowledge and experience
- Graphic design experience is a plus, but not required.
- Edit and proofread new content for the website and emails to our thousands of supporters
- Help organize and implement our popular Walking Tours and Forums program and other educational events
- Provide general staff support by monitoring and compiling press clips and organizing our digital library
- Conduct media outreach and make pitch calls as needed
- Assist with other projects that come along
Communications and Organizational Development Intern - Summer 2012
Are you looking for an opportunity to gain experience in nonprofit grassroots organizing, communications, and organizational development? Are you passionate about smart growth ideas and helping to advance them in Washington D.C.? The Coalition for Smarter Growth is looking for a Communications and Organizational Development Intern to start in June 2012.
Qualifications
This internship is ideal for anyone interested in working with a dynamic, passionate team, getting exposure to the workings of a nonprofit, and gaining practical work experience. The internship comprises activities in several areas, from online communications to fundraising to educational programs. The intern will support staff in whatever areas needed and be ready to help with projects as they come up.
The intern will also have the opportunity to participate in meetings with Coalition partners as well as be part of strategic planning discussions.
