Upcoming Events
We started our Walking Tours and Forums Program in 2006, and since then the series has taken off. Each event offers the opportunity to learn about development and planning issues in your own community from a variety of viewpoints. Whether you're new to the world of smart growth or an experienced planner, these events are a fun and interactive learning experience. Tour guides and forum speakers include planners, developers, architects, government representatives and civic activists. You'll have the opportunity to ask lots of questions and even provide your own point of view if you so choose. Join us for one of our next events! "The Wharf" Southwest Waterfront Development Walking Tour
Saturday, May 12, 2012
10am - 12 noon
During the walk, we'll discuss the plans to make the Wharf a water-focused development with features comparable to those of Seattle's Pier 57 and Pike Place, Vancouver's Granville Island, and some of the great waterfronts of Europe. The Wharf is also slated to include thousands of new homes, innovative sustainable design elements, and a possible future streetcar connection. The Wharf effort seeks to create a world-class development that will open up the waterfront to tens of thousands of residents and visitors.
We'll finish the tour where we started, but with knowledge of the development team's vision for the Wharf and the different phases to come. This new development will be within walking distance of two Metro stations - Waterfront and L'Enfant Plaza, offer bicycle-friendly connections, and eventually be linked by streetcar.
