Update:

Alexandria has achieved smart growth in many areas. As a historic city, Old Town Alexandria has maintained its grid of streets and much of the walkability of older towns. The city is metro accessible, with mixed use and transit-oriented development (TOD). The challenge in Alexandria is to maintain and grow the supply of affordable housing and jobs, protect open space, and maintain a community that is both ecologically and socially healthy.
