Overwhelmingly, residents living in the Culmore neighborhood of Bailey’s Crossroads feel unsafe walking and biking along Route 7, according to a walkability survey conducted by CSG and immigrant advocacy organization CASA.

Immigrant advocacy organization CASA and the Coalition for Smarter Growth will host a press conference to unveil important findings collected as part of the Bailey’s Crossroads street safety campaign, focused on making Route 7 safer for people walking, biking and using transit.

“We really need to design this street to be safer for all users, not just the people driving,” said Breehey. “We hope to get some of these improvements, the near term ones, and then really start planning for the longer term.”

The Virginia Department of Transportation has agreed to consider some improvements but is not moving fast enough, said Sonya Breehey, Northern Virginia advocacy manager for the Coalition for Smarter Growth.
